We are Salima L.E.A Primary School in Salima, Malawi.
Our school was established in 1957. We bear the name Salima as it was the first primary school by the district centre. It was established by the local authority.
Our school has a special needs department where we have 34 learners. Gradually, some of them are integrated into mainstream classes. The process happens when they have mastered reading and writing skills and that they are able to listen carefully from their teachers. The special needs department deals mainly with those with sight issues.
We have standards one to eight with the age range of 6 to 17. The age range is like that because of factors that include repetition of classes and starting school at a later age than the recommended age of six.
Our school has 2,546 learners (1282 Girls and 1264 boys). The enrolment is high as we are in the centre of the district where business, working and people from surrounding communities feed to our school. We used to reach up to 3500 pupils.
Our pupil teacher ratio is 1:42. The school has 61 teachers of which 16 are male while 45 are female.
Our school head teacher is Mr Nathan Nsambo.
