Design and Technology is a subject that, if implemented effectively, can be used across the curriculum and not just in one lesson. At LACO, we try and create opportunities throughout our curriculum to apply practical design skills in many projects. For example, When Year 2 investigate the Great Fire of London, they also participate in a D&T project to recreate the wooden tudor houses that were so fundamental in causes the fire the spread.
As Design and Technology has such a vast array of skills to master, it is the perfect subject to implement across the curriculum to enhance other subjects.
At LACO, we know that skills take time to develop. So we ensure children get multiple opportunities throughout their school life to revisit skills and master them.
Here you will find the breakdown of the National Curriculum guidance alongside our aims and vision for Design Technology at LACO. You we also see how we implement the subject and what the impact of this is.
Our Design and Technology Curriculum Progression Map displays a clear pathway of learning each child will experience throughout their time at LACO. Each skill is revisited frequently to develop a mastery and confidence within the learner, alongside thorough investigations that provide the children with cross-curricular opportunities to apply the skills in different subjects.
