Library/Media
The Library/Media program at the School District of the Chathams is designed to foster a love of reading and develop information literacy skills which will enable our students to think critically and become ethical and responsible members of society. Our goal is to produce successful and inquisitive learners who are effective and ethical users of information, critical thinkers, skillful researchers, and avid readers across all subject areas and disciplines.
The school Library/Media program promotes inquiry, reading as a foundational skill for learning and personal/professional growth, collaboration among students and staff, and the development of lifelong learners, users, and producers of information and ideas. The school Library/Media program provides instruction that develops multiple literacies in our learners, including information literacy, media literacy, and technological literacy.
INSTRUCTIONAL OVERVIEW [Fully Virtual/Remote Instruction]
Learning experiences will primarily focus on weekly learning experiences that are provided to students through their library/media specialist’s Google Classroom. These assignments will focus on fostering a love of reading, author and genre studies, research and investigation, and digital citizenship. We will also continue to ensure students have access to books and texts to support literacy instruction and the students’ independent reading interests.
STUDENT EXPECTATIONS [Fully Virtual/Remote Instruction]
Students should participate in class following the building’s fully virtual schedule for live instruction. Students will work with their teachers and peers to engage in research, digital citizenship lessons, author studies, and reading. Once a student has completed his/her library/media assignment, s/he should submit the work on the Google Classroom assignment. Some assignments will need to be submitted on FlipGrid or Padlet, as indicated in the weekly assignment directions and explained by the teacher.
