Health & Physical Education

The essential intent of the School District of the Chathams is to discover and grow the gifts within each child. The Comprehensive Health, Physical Education and Wellness Department accomplishes this intent by providing students with the skills and knowledge necessary to achieve a healthy, active lifestyle, while fostering positive attitudes toward maintaining health and wellness throughout their lifespan.

INSTRUCTIONAL OVERVIEW [Fully Virtual/Remote Instruction]

The Health and Physical Education (HPE) program in the School District of the Chathams encourages all students to foster an appreciation for health and wellness that will help lead to a physically active lifestyle. This curriculum is designed to promote each student’s optimum physical, mental, emotional and social development. Because this curriculum is student-centered and interactive, health information is combined with skill development and practice in order to have an impact on lifelong behavior.

K-5:

The learning experience will focus primarily on establishing a healthy lifestyle, practicing good health habits, building skills to enhance well-being, and exploring social emotional learning concepts that enhance development. Weekly live instruction and assignments will focus on health content and SEL. Students will engage in physical activity exercises and health lessons with their class.

6-12:

Teachers will stay in contact with individual students regarding their performance and questions. Teachers can contact students via email as well as utilizing FlipGrid or their building’s learning management system (Google Classroom 6-8 and Schoology 9-12). Teachers should schedule individual Google Meets to better assess students’ understanding during the flex time built into the day, as needed.
