EDM 1

About Me

My name is Jed Smith. I live with my Mother, Father, dog, and one of my two brothers. I am a middle child with an older brother and a younger twin. I learn/work better in a smaller class and with a teacher who truly wants to see me succeed. I am motivated in school to do well because I want to succeed in life. I am motivated by engineering because it's something I love to do. I choose Engineering Design Methods One (EDM1) because it's something I enjoy and something I want to do in the future. In this class, I am most excited about learning how to use new machines and tools and being able to elevate my understanding of engineering. In my free time, I play a lot of golf and I spend a lot of time with my friends.

Engineering Experience

A project that I am very proud of is an operation game that I built in 8th grade. We built it for class and I choose a golf bag because it had been a goal of mine all year to make the Latin golf team. The process we used was brainstorming what we wanted the project to be, and then creating the board in Inkscape, designing 3D pieces in Sketchup, and then soldering the tweezers, LED, cooper tape so the project would function. One issue I had was I made the pieces so that they would fit in the holes; however, I forgot to leave room for the tweezers so it took a few times to rescale the pieces to the right size.
