Fusion Free design

3d printed Duck

Another design program we use is called Fusion 360, which is a truly powerful program with such absurd number of features it would be, difficult, to say in the least, to learn during a semester long class. However, We went through tutorials of it during class and I learned enough to put together this little amalgamation of different shapes. My attempt was to make a bit of a bird like figure, however my computer crashed two times during the course of me making this project and unfortunately I was not able to recover all of my design. So, this is really the third iteration of this bird, which in the interest of time I ended up making a lot simpler than it originally was.

Printing:

Unfortunately upon printing a few problems arose when I tried to take my CAD file and print it into the real world. Since it has such a thin bridge between the two main bodies, the most time efficient way to print it was on it’s side, otherwise the structures needed to hold it up would have taken a long time. Unfortunately, that decision came with a couple of drawbacks. As you can see in the drawing, the sides are supposed to be symmetrical, but the side I printed it on it visibly different than the file and the other side. It lost some features and slightly changed some of the details as well. And while I am not quite sure why this happened, in the file there is a little shell in the box meant for holding Knick knacks or little objects, but form the top view you can see that it was filled in. I hope to fix this for the next time I 3D print.
