Best practices for teachers who have a student concern:
Start by reviewing this MTSS Intervention Plan Fact Sheet! The fact sheet outlines the process and which students might benefit from an MTSS intervention plan.
This MTSS Student Intervention Plan Checklist is the best next step! It is so important that data is collected on the student concern, attempted interventions, student strengths, student motivating factors, etc. are all considered. This checklist is an extremely helpful tool prior to meeting with the MTSS team, and then reviewing with the whole team.
Developing a plan: most MTSS student intervention plans start with core teachers. Being a part of the intervention development stage helps in identifying areas of concern, SMART goals, supports, progress monitoring, etc.
MTSS Fidelity Check should be reviewed consistently after developing a plan. This insures that we are providing evidence based interventions, there are qualified interventionists, time built into the schedule to make sure students are recieving interventions etc. Adjustments can be made after interventions begin in order to make sure we are meeting the fidelity checklist!
Tier 1 Universal Design Learning Considerations:
Below is an overview ot the MTSS Framework. Consider MTSS as the umbrella that covers PBIS, RTI, Core instruction, SEL, and all things within the building. MTSS looks at what happens at the universal tier 1 level (constantly adjusting based on student needs [80% of students]), the tier 2 level (adjusting, identifying research based interventions to support students across academics, behavior, social and emotional competency, English language, attendance, etc. and providing targeted interventions [15%]) and the tier 3 level (students who benefit from the most significant support, while still receiving tier 1 and 2 supports and interventions [5%])
