Hello!
Welcome to Champlain and our Adjunct Faculty Union page.
This group began to form in 2014 following a wave of unionizing college adjunct instructors. Nationally there was a trend in colleges hiring part time faculty to reduce costs. Champlain College has always had a significant number of professionals who taught part time. Access to the larger union ( SEIU) became easier and so Champlain College's adjunct faculty union was organized in 2015.
Our first contract was fairly basic, but was specific to the needs of Champlain College adjuncts. The second contract negotiated in 2019 is more detailed and nuanced with specific intentions (i.e., professional development funds and a seniority scale) to support Champlain adjunct instructors. This is something the union leadership team is very proud of. With the goals of instructional support, access to networking with colleagues and to foster a feeling a community, the union is vital. Your voice and ideas are welcomed.
All adjunct faculty are invited to join the union, including full-time Champlain staff members who teach overload courses as staff adjuncts. Membership is not open to employees with full-time faculty appointments.
