In January 2020, the City launched an open enrollment process for all eligible New Yorkers at or below the Federal Poverty Level who don’t have discounted transportation from the MTA or the City. Those who were previously enrolled in the program and are still eligible will be given an opportunity to re-certify and receive the benefit again. All other eligible applicants will be able to apply through an online platform.
Eligible New Yorkers will receive a letter from the Fair Fares program informing them of how to enroll online through the link below to ACCESS HRA, which is fully accessible from a computer or a mobile phone. Eligible New Yorkers with ACCESS HRA accounts may also receive an alert via their ACCESS HRA homepage after logging in. Eligible New Yorkers may also visit a Fair Fares location to enroll in the program. Bring your eligibility letter with you to enroll.
All Fair Fares NYC MetroCards come ready to add time and/or value. When you add time to your Fair Fares NYC MetroCard, you will be charged half the current price for the unlimited weekly or monthly option. When you add value, you will add the amount you choose to your card and the turnstile will deduct half the current fare when you swipe.
Check the eligibility requirements below. Based on this information, if you think you might be eligible for the Fair Fares NYC MetroCard, log on to ACCESS HRA at nyc.gov/accesshra to check your eligibility status or contact 311. If you need assistance or have questions, please call 311.
