Most schools will have an online way of creating assignments/ work for their students already. Again, we do not want you to implement new ways of working for your students.
The big difference for all during this time, will be creating a feedback loop for students, if they don't have face-to-face classes.
Some helpful Tips: Source Janet Claassen
The first two weeks of online learning is about survival for students and for teachers:
Developing routines for students (support from a timetable)
Providing a simple online process for students
Providing easy to manage work for students (underestimate rather than overestimate workload)
Connect with kids visually (this could be a brief simple video) or a photo of you on the screen.
Building confidence and understanding around the new way of working is the most important aspect of the first two weeks (The quality of the work and the connection to the standards is not the priority at this time)
Feedback and connection is crucial for students to see value and feel successful
During the first two weeks of online learning review the plan of instruction that was originally planned for Term 2. Identify the key components of the plan. What MUST be taught. Use this information to develop a high quality and manageable plan for Term 2.
From week 2- 4
Share the unit that will be taught with students (make it relevant)
Share the unit outcomes/lessons outcomes (make it simple)
Include some direct teaching and connection through video
If appropriate for the age level and if students have access, provide opportunities for students to connect via an online tool such as Google Meet
Google Classroom is a great way to create, manage and develop feedback loops for your students. Most Primary schools would use this from 3-6. Secondary schools use this widely as well. See more (including developing a feedback loop) - Click Here
See-Saw/Showbie (and others) allow you to gather student work and set assignments as well.
Secondary schools will have an LMS that the students should be well versed in and be used to completing work and handing it in.
Again, the really different thing for these students is the feedback loop you are providing for them if they are not at school most days.
