Considerations:

Note: the following considerations only relate to the recording of teacher-delivered material, and do not apply to video or audio recording of students or their work.

Separate Guidelines are available in relation to the recording of students. {CES GUIDELINES for Use of live-streaming video-conferencing with students (APRIL 2020).pdf}

Teachers may wish to record examples of work or have a process outlined for their students which they can do on their school owned device. This page looks at how you may go about recording your screen to enhance student content knowledge. Of course, you can use an iPad to record a physical example and share the movie.

You can use the built in features of their device to record content. Screen Record on the iPad and Quicktime on the Mac are easy to use and quite good quality. Editing can be done in iMovie, Adobe Rush or Adobe Premiere if needed.

Screencastify or other 3rd party software can be used, if not built into the device - see below: It appears in the current crisis that Screencastify have lifted their limit of 5 minutes.

The recordings can be shared on Google Classroom (or whatever LMS is available):

  • Keep recordings short and snappy - focus on the content

  • May be easier for slow connections - students will be able to download the content over a longer time

  • asynchronous (not live) delivery of content will allow for personalisation of the content - time needed to take up concepts, slower connections, allowing students to work at their own speed, ability to pick and choose which content they study next etc.

  • Homework Grids and other choice based activities will allow for student interest and bias
