Purple

Every morning I wake up

to the sound of a deafening electronic screech.

I silence the alarm and look at the walls around me.

They’re painted blue.

Blue; like my curtains

Blue; like the jeans in my dresser.

But...I don’t like the color blue.

Every morning my sister wakes up.

She looks at the walls around her.

They’re painted pink.

Pink; like her curtains.

Pink; like the dress in her closet.

But...I don’t like the color pink.

Do I really have to pick one?

I just wish I could pick the color purple.

Purple; like my hair.

Purple; like the delicate glass flower on my desk.

I like the color purple.

Not everybody is either blue or pink.
