Zoey Tiefenthaler “Reclused Warrior”
8.5 x 11”, Pen on Paper, 2019
The style of my drawing is a mix of realism and surrealism. The symbolism of my drawing represents the hardships of a warrior and how their role in fighting may cause them to become reclusive and more independent (hence the mask, glass-like shards floating behind the warrior, and the crossed arms) For things that I would have liked to change about the drawing would be the pose of the character. I would have wanted the character to look more focused and possibly have her wielding her spear. I don’t mind the ¾ idle, crossed-arms pose, but I do believe, had I changed the pose a bit, that there would be more character and more expression within the drawing. As for things that I love about the drawing, I love how the pen contrasts so sharply against the white paper. I’m also pretty proud of my design of the character and the appearance of her spear. The shards behind the character also keep me intrigued when I look at the drawing, which leaves me to be overall proud of this drawing.
(My printmaking process didn't go as smoothly as I expected, considering only a portion of the original drawing appears on the print) *see on right
