The style of my drawing is surrealism. The symbolism of my drawing is of the beginning of a story in a fantasy-like setting. I wanted to depict a lone hero on a floating island as a confident and single-minded figure willing to dive into danger and have fun while doing it. The hero faces the sun outside of the drawing, not looking back as they are prepared to face the unknown. The tree behind the hero guides them to the right path with its wisdom. For things that I would change, I would probably make the falling leaves coming off of the tree be smaller and a lot lighter so they contrast less, as well as make the tree’s roots cling onto the floating island more rather than look like they’re just hanging over the island. As for things that I love about this drawing, I really love the shape of the floating island and how the tree’s branches look. I also really love the hero’s stance and how their robes blow softly behind them from the breeze. Overall, I am pretty proud of this first piece that I have created.
