Zoey Tiefenthaler “Dennis”
12x18”, Graphite Pencil and Pen on Paper, 2019
The style of my drawing is realism. The symbolism of my drawing is what it’d be like to be in the mind of an animal like a cat. For reference, I used a picture that I took of my cat, Dennis, and drew off of the picture. I also wanted to add something intriguing and eye-catching to the background, so I decided to input the word “curiosity” in Korean as a repeating word on the paper. I wanted to connect my Korean roots with something as inquisitive as a cat. The cat’s eyes and the direction that it’s looking at emphasizes its curiousness. As for things I would have liked to change with the drawing, I would’ve liked to have done a little more shading on the cat and would’ve not drawn in the paw on the bottom. As for what I love about the drawing, I really love the cat’s face and the complexity of the background. I also love the expression of the cat and how calm it appears to look.
