Emma Zimmerman “Calm after the storm”
18x24, Acrylic paint, 2017
This is a painting of a truck pulling a camper parked in front of a house after a thunderstorm. I got this idea from a picture I had, I took the picture at my friend’s house after the large storm that set off tornado sirens. The storm passed leaving a faded rainbow across the street. If I could start over I would try to use less layers of paint to make the painting look smoother and I would use smaller brushes for some of the detail. Overall, I really like how the texture on the truck, trees and road turned out. The truck was rusting the top layer of dark blue and I tried to recreate that with a sponge. I also really like how the detail on the tires turned out because it was something that I wasn’t too worried about but I think it ended up enhancing the look of the truck.
Emma Zimmerman “Going to work”
18x24, Acrylic paint, 2017
This is a painting of a man and his horse on his way to work. I got the idea from a picture that my dad took while on a work trip in Brazil. The style is realism and is a common scene that people see in their day to day lives in Brazil. If I could start over I would paint the background in first to make it a little easier. I overall love all the detail in the man, horse and background plants. I also like how the painting feels balanced with the amount of detail all around.
