Emma Zimmerman “Butterfly Effect”
14X6X11, Earthenware Clay and glass, 2019
The idea for this project came from a mix of other ceramic busts I had seen online. I knew I wanted to challenge myself with creating a person along with adding elements of nature such as butterflies or flowers. Originally, I was just going to have just the ceramic butterflies on the bust, but after glazing I thought it would look more realistic and make it more interesting to add color and different textures to look at. If I were to start over I would make the eyes a little smaller along with making the shirt not so bulky. I overall love the mix of colors between the glaze and flowers and the interesting contrast that it makes.
Emma Zimmerman “Fish wind chime”
4X3X18, Earthenware clay and glass, 2019
I first got my idea for this from pictures I had seen on Pinterest. I had seen other wind chimes like this one but wanted to make my own. The artwork doesn’t have much meaning, I just wanted to recreate something neat in my own way. If I were to start over I would make sure to put holes in the fish pieces before I let them dry so that I don’t make cracks or break parts of it later on. I overall love the color choices and how it all turned out in the end.
Emma Zimmerman, "Antarctica Claymation)
Modeling clay, 2019
For this project I worked with Jeff, Jesse and Reece. We first started out by all making random characters and then developing a story line from there. The story started with the penguin and abominable snowman walking in the snow when their alien friend stops by. Then, Godzilla walks in and they all fight. The story ends when Godzilla takes off in the spaceship. I overall love the characters we created, but if I were to start over I think we might try a more interesting story line.
Emma Zimmerman, "Wheel thrown bowl"
4X6X7, Earthenware clay and glass, 2019
For this project I wanted to attempt making a bowl on the wheel. My first bowl was lopsided and ended up being too thin and breaking. This was the second attempt, I overall love the color of glaze that I used. If I were to start over I would try to make it bigger and a little more interesting to look at.
