Emma Zimmerman “Sunflowers”
12X18, Pastel Pencils, 2017
The style of my drawing is realism with the sunflowers in a field on a blue sky and cloudy day. The symbolism shown in the drawing is peace and simplicity with the four main sunflowers standing tall in a field. If I could start over I would change the background that the flowers are on. I would’ve drawn a sunset background or something more interesting to look at. Overall, I am most pleased with how the sunflowers themselves turned out, I wanted to make the flowers the focal point and really pop out and I think I succeeded in doing that.
Emma Zimmerman “Vacancy”
18x24, Water color pencils and acrylic on paper, 2017
The style of this drawing is realism because this is a scene that you could see on any city street. The symbolism of the drawing is emptiness because the streets are empty, most of the lights in the building are out and the motel is empty with its vacancy sign displayed. If I could start over I would use a different media that would allow for more detail and a neater look. Overall, I love how the tall buildings in the background turned out with the old look on the outside and the blend of colors.
Emma Zimmerman “Fish Bowl”
11x9, Graphite and chalk on paper, 2018
The style of my drawing is a mix or realism and abstract. The fish in the fish bowl with plants is realisms while the fish bowl within a fish bowl is abstract. The symbolism in this drawing is that the two fish are stuck inside a smaller fish bowl while there is a much larger one outside of them that would be more ideal. If I were to start over I might have made the drawing bigger so that I could make the fish more detailed. I overall love the mix of the graphite with color to make the fish the main focus.
Emma Zimmerman “Paint brushes”
9x12, Acrylic on paper, 2017
I got the idea for this print by looking around the room and noticing the jar full of paint brushes. I first sketched the idea on paper then began the print process. I put paint on a plate and put my paper over it and traced my print on the paper to create the picture in the paint. If I could start over I would try to get a more even layer of paint across my whole plate. I overall love how you can see the picture and make out what it is.
Emma Zimmerman "Lighthouse"
12x18, graphite on paper, 2017
I got this idea to draw the lighthouse from a picture taken while my family was on vacation in North Carolina. The stye of this drawing is realism, if I could start over I would try to make the windows look more angled to match the perspective. Overall I love the different shades of graphite and how you can tell parts of the lighthouse are chipping away.
