September 2019

From the High School Office...

Welcome Back!

And just like that, day one of the 2019-2020 school year is here. At the district welcome back presentations, a guest speaker with four school-aged children referred to Tuesday as a "national holiday." We are extremely happy to have your kids back.

We want to remind families that Tuesday begins with our Class of 2023 only. We welcome freshman to the high school with a breakfast catered by Aramark Food Service, share some high school basics, and walk them through their schedules. Grades 10th-12th begin their day at 11:00am. The first day schedule is linked for your convenience.

Our 2019 CHS Open House is this Wednesday night beginning at 6:15pm in the CHS Fieldhouse. This is a great time to get a quick update on the state of CHS and to visit with all of your son or daughter's teachers as you traverse their academic schedule.

Every high school educator loves September. Students return to our classrooms, there is a tremendous energy across building, and the excitement of Homecoming gives us all something to look forward to. We welcome the 2019-2020 school year and hope that we continue to grow the success and opportunities for your students that are the trademark of CHS.

Cheers to a great school year and Go Bulldogs.

Adam Kurth

Principal, Cedarburg High School

CHS Policy Reminders: Cell Phone/Listening Device Policy & Student Dress Code

As we start the new school year, please help us in reminding students that CHS is a school that prides itself on the quality of education & safety it provides for our young adults. To assist us in doing so, please review the following with your student:

Cell phone/Electronic Listening Device Policy:

Students must have their cell phone/electronic listening devices silenced & out of sight prior to the beginning of class.

With permission from their classroom teacher(s), students may use electronic devices for learning purposes only. Students are allowed to use their electronic devices before school until 7:28 AM & after school beginning at 2:40 PM. During the school day, students are allowed to use these devices during study hall, lunch & in the hallways (during passing time) .

Student Dress Code:

A student’s dress & appearance shall be such that it does not endanger the health or safety of self or others, cause a disruption to the educational process, invade the right of others or promote, depict or advertise alcohol, drugs, tobacco products, firearms, gang affiliation/activity, profanity, violence, pornography or other inappropraite material.

The list below should be used to help students & parents select appropriate clothing for students to wear to school.

Examples of inappropriate clothing include, but are not limited to students wearing:

  • hats or head coverings, such as hoods, ball caps, stocking caps, etc.
  • clothing that contains inappropriate or offensive language, images, or messages
  • “spaghetti strap shirts, “tube tops” or tops without one or both shoulders
  • Tops or bottoms that leave any abdominal, back, or midriff skin exposed
  • Tops or bottoms that do not completely cover undergarments
  • Skirts or shorts that do not have enough material that covers both the hips & buttocks, or extend to where the fingertips meet the leg, (i.e. “hips to tips”)

Parents, please be advised that students who are not dressed appropriately will first be asked by a staff member or administration to find appropriate attire to change into, &/or a call to a parent for proper attire will be made.

CHS' complete cell phone/electronic listening device policy & dress code policy, along with others, can be viewed in our 2018-2019 CHS Student Handbook.

AP Update

Beginning in the 2019-20 school year, the AP Program is introducing new resources and processes designed to help students earn college credit and placement.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Students will be asked to register for AP Exams in October. AP Exams will continue to be given in May.
  • The exam fee isn’t changing. However, there will be a $40 fee for late registration and a $40 cancelation or unused exam fee.
  • Cedarburg High School will collect AP Test fees when a student registers for an exam(s).

To get ready for the coming school year, students should sign up for a College Board account if they don’t already have one. All College Board programs are connected through one account, so if you have created one for the PSAT/NMSQT, SAT or College Board Opportunity Scholarships, you are all set. Students will just need to have their username and password available. Please visit parents.collegeboard.org for more information or contact the CHS Counseling Office. More information will be distributed once school resumes.
