CHS Monthly Newsletter

August 2019

From the High School Office...

Happy August to our CHS Families.

This is an exciting time to be a Bulldog. We are currently ranked as the top school in the state. We have new construction going on that will make our school safer and create better learning opportunities. We are offering new courses and experiences for our students. Most importantly, our students are coming back to a staff that worked hard throughout the summer to ensure the best possible education for our kids.

We are proud to welcome the class of 2023 to the high school! We know these students will accomplish great things in their time at CHS. For the parents of our incoming freshmen, this newsletter serves as our monthly communication for all upcoming events and celebrations.

Fall is always the busiest time of year for a high school. Students arrive and get acclimated to their new classes, information for the year saturates their days and parents' emails, sports and activities are in full swing, and we all look forward to the celebration of CHS and our alumni during Homecoming week.

Below is information regarding registration, the first days of school, and other pertinent items for your son or daughter's return to CHS. As we move through this year, we would like to stress the necessary relationship between families and CHS staff toward our students' success. Please reach out to the CHS staff with any questions or needs as we progress through the year so that we can work together for our kids. We are very excited to start a new year with your students and look forward to all of the experiences and success to come.

Cheers to a great school year and Go Bulldogs!

Adam Kurth

Principal, Cedarburg High School

Construction Update:

  • Demolition of the schools west side exterior is underway.
  • Excavating for the retention pond and adjusted drive with new parking on the north side of the building are underway.
  • Electrical rewires to the west side of the building occurring to ensure power and access.

The construction is moving along and accommodations have been made inside the building to ensure the least disruptive environment. We are fortunate that only three teachers have been displaced for the year and all areas plan to maintain the same learning atmosphere as always.

Both of the parent drop-off and student access locations are still available and without change. Families should be aware that access to the west and north drives and parking lot (along the east side of the football field and north side of the CPAC) are gated off for construction and will not be accessible.

SCHEDULE ADJUSTMENT

Last year, schools across Wisconsin navigated the cold and snowy weather that dictated a high number of snow days. The Cedarburg School District was in a good position due to proactively scheduling in additional instructional minutes to our school calendar. In a continued proactive measure, CHS will be adding two minutes to the end of our school day to allow one additional snow day should we encounter a similar weather trend. These minutes will be added to 4th block each day as this will help mitigate disruptions that may occur at the end of the day while allowing for inclement weather issues should we encounter another unique Wisconsin winter.

2019-2020 AP Changes

Beginning in the 2019-20 school year, the AP Program is introducing new resources and processes designed to help students earn college credit and placement.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Students will be asked to register for AP Exams in October. AP Exams will continue to be given in May.
  • The exam fee isn’t changing. However, there will be a $40 fee for late registration (after November 8th) and a $40 cancelation or unused exam fee.
  • Cedarburg High School will collect AP Test fees via Skyward when a student registers for an exam(s).

To get ready for the coming school year, students should sign up for a College Board account if they don’t already have one. All College Board programs are connected through one account, so if you have created one for the PSAT/NMSQT, SAT or College Board Opportunity Scholarships, you are all set. Students will just need to have their username and password available.

Please visit parents.collegeboard.org for more information or contact the CHS Counseling Office. More information will be distributed once school resumes.
