This is truly one of the best times of the year for our students. They are energized and calorie-laden after the Thanksgiving break and looking forward to the holiday break in a few weeks. It is a great time for learning in our classrooms.
This time always bring out the charity in our students and staff as well. We have a sock drive, toy drive, family giving, and other charitable events that occur all month long. Our music programs also shine during this time of the year as they perform both for our families, but also all over the community. We are excited to welcome the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra for a special afternoon district performance for Cedarburg students. A sincere thank you to Kathleen Koster with the CPAC, Inc. Visiting Artists Series and the Rita Edquist Memorial Fund for covering the expense so that some of our students can see orchestral music played at the highest level.
As we move into January, there are several significant events that occur very quickly out of the break. Exams take place on January 15th-17th. Now is the time to start having the discussion with your students to ensure they are preparing properly, connecting with teachers for support, and staying rested and healthy. We will be serving breakfast to our students, free of charge, each morning of exams. After exam week, testing season arrives. Below you will find a calendar of Resource sessions that are deliberately designed to support our students as they prepare for the ACT as juniors and for the ACT Aspire as freshman and sophomores.
I would be remiss if I did not address the recent events at area Wisconsin schools. This week has surfaced a lot of emotions in our students, staff, and parents that should never be a part of coming to school. It refocuses the fact that the difficult work we have ahead of ensuring our students are prepared and empowered in any situation is the right work to do. We will be rolling out our students ALiCE safety training next week for all students. More details and information is listed below and will be shared in a separate email be the end of this week. It is a tough time for schools, but we remain optimistic for the future. Thanks to all families for the empathy you have shown and the support you offer in keeping our students safe.
On behalf of the staff at CHS, we wish all of our families a Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year.
Go Bulldogs!

Athletic Calendar (full calendar)
Next week, December 9th-13th, our staff will guide all students through school safety ALiCE training and how to respond to any possible threat in our building. On an annual basis, we have conducted school safety drills that would respond to safety situations in our building. The ALiCE protocols in which our students will be trained enhance our practices that are already in place by embedding research based actions toward the best possible outcomes. The letters in ALICE stand for: Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter & Evacuate. The week will consist of a scaffolded rollout each day as follows:
As shared above, you will receive a letter this week through email with additional details on the week's events. We are aware that this may be a challenging week for many of our students and we are putting in place the necessary supports. We hope families will take the opportunity to have conversations at home that help students process the week's activities and support the life-long skills our students will have as a result of their safety training.

Thank you!!! In November, the country celebrated American Education Week in honor of teachers and staff who work everyday to do their best with your students. The CHS staff would like to share a sincere appreciation for the PTO's efforts in providing daily snacks and treats in recognition of our staff and their efforts. It was an amazing spread of food and truly appreciated by the staff of CHS.
Don't forget to check out the Spiritwear sale linked here. The PTO has added many new items for purchase. All proceeds go back to supporting our students and staff!
We would like to get a save-the-date out for this great event! Every year we celebrate our students accomplishments, and every year families ask us how a student qualifies and how they are recognized. Below is a snapshot of the som eof the larger celebrations that occur for our students at CHS for our families to better understand the wide variety of successes we try to recognize. We do our best to recognize these accomplishments, as well as other accomplishments and great performances, through social media outlets and on our website as well.
On December 4th, we will have an Advisory for 9-11th grade students outlining the scheduling procedures for the upcoming school year. Information will be shared about the Elective Fair scheduled on December 18th and 20th. Teachers will be providing assistance to students on selecting the appropriate courses for their content area. Counselors will be available to meet with students to help them throughout this process. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your counselor with any questions regarding course selection for your child. Many resources will be available to you online starting December 4th. Click on the Scheduling Procedures option on the counseling page to find step by step directions, a scheduling video, helpful forms, and the updated course book.
On Wednesday December 18th during Resource, all Sophomores will be participating in an Elective Fair and Juniors will be participating in a Core Elective Overview. On Friday, December 20th during Resource, all Sophomores will be participating in the Core Elective Overview and Freshmen will be participating in the Elective Fair. During the fair, students will have the opportunity to choose three elective areas they would like to learn more about from instructors in those areas. During the overview, students will learn more about the core elective opportunities available to them. There are many great choices at CHS to support a students college or career path, as well as their passions.
Is the search for happiness the meaning of life or is there more? Research indicates that a life of meaning leads to improved resilience and enhanced school and work outcomes. Happiness comes and goes, says writer Emily Esfahani Smith, but having meaning in life -- serving something beyond yourself and developing the best within you -- gives you something to hold onto. In her TEDtalk Emily Esfahani Smith outlines four pillars of a meaningful life: Belonging, Purpose, Transcendence, and Story Telling. Strive for MEANING, create your life, and add to your story.
Hope, resilience and a growth mindset are essential ingredients in helping to determine and create the future you want for your child. Acknowledging past experiences and understanding how those experiences impact us and our children in the present are the building blocks for change. Skills your kids learn now, can help them to navigate future life challenges. Learn more about how these positive strategies strengthen your parenting skills with OFS staff member Abigail Ribecky, MS. The workshop is free and free limited childcare is available (inquire when registering). To register call 262-376-7774 or click here.

The showing of "Screenagers: NEXT CHAPTER" is a follow-up to "Screenagers: Growing Up in a Digital Age" shown last fall by the PES Steering Committee.
In this documentary, filmmaker and physician Dr. Delaney Ruston takes the conversation around screens and teens to the next level with Screenagers NEXT CHAPTER: Uncovering Skills for Stress Resilience—a film that examines the science behind teen’s emotional challenges, the interplay of social media, and most importantly, what can be done in our schools and homes to help them build crucial skills to navigate stress, anxiety, and depression in our digital age. The film sets the stage to understand these challenges in our current screen-filled society, and how we, as parents and educators, can empower teens to overcome mental health challenges and build emotional agility, communication savvy, and stress resilience.
The one hour video presentation will be followed by a 30-minute talk back panel discussion with experts in the field and other educational professionals.
Visit our website to learn more about upcoming events hosted by the district. It will be updated as more information becomes available.
