Happy Second Semester to our CHS Families.
To the parents of our senior class, can you believe they are in their final semester of high school?
It is February which means the state of Wisconsin's ACT testing day is only weeks away. CHS conducts a special schedule on the state-wide ACT testing day to best meet the needs of all students. Freshman will be taking part in our winter testing session and engaging in enrichment and wellness activities. We are excited again to offer an array of college visits for our sophomore class in order to help expose our students to all different post-secondary options in Wisconsin. Juniors will be taking part in the state ACT test. Our entire staff know that our Bulldogs are prepared and ready to do well on this test. Seniors are released for the day to take part in self-directed college visits, scholarship work, or other necessary senior expectations. Additional information for families is listed and linked below.
We are excited to present Anything Goes as this year's CHS musical. Come be wowed by the sounds and sights of our students tap dancing on the CPAC stage!
Don't forget about the Bulldog Brainstorming Session - Setting Parent Priorities with the Principal coming in a few weeks. Monday, February 24th from 6:30-8:00pm in the CHS IMC, The PTO will hold a parent input session on setting CHS priorities for the future work of the CHS administration and staff. All are welcome! If you are interested in attending, please fill out the linked Bulldog Brainstorming Session form so that we can plan for space and supplies for the night.

For the third year at CHS, sophomores will have the opportunity to begin post-secondary exploration while juniors are taking the statewide ACT on March 3rd. On this day, sophomore students will travel off campus and explore a variety of post-secondary options. An email containing a google form used to sign up was emailed home on January 28th. If you have not done so please review the information regarding post-secondary options and select your student’s top three destinations.
Please keep in mind that there are limited slots available for each destination and scheduling is first come, first serve. The deadline to complete your request is February 4th, 2020. After this time, students will be assigned a designated location based on availability.
On March 3rd, students will need to either bring a lunch or bring $7-10 to purchase lunch on campus. We suggest that students bring money so they can experience eating in the Student Union or cafeterias on campus.
Contact the College & Career Center or Main Office with any questions.
On-line CCSF and CHS Scholarship applications are due Friday, February 7 no later than 3:30 PM. Late applications will not be accepted. Help is available in the College and Career Center leading up to this deadline.
The Cedarburg Junior Woman's Club (CJWC) is excited to host Trivia Night on Saturday, March 7th at the Cedarburg Cultural Center. All proceeds from this fun event benefit the CJWC Scholarship Fund. Each year, CJWC's Scholarship Committee reviews applications from local female seniors and awards two, $1000 scholarships! Get your tickets now as this event sold out last year! Visit http://www.cedarburgjuniors.org/ for details about the event and to purchase tickets.
What are Grad Grams?
Grad Grams are like a greeting card! They are a personalized way to inspire, congratulate, and remember our CHS graduates. Grad Grams are available for purchase in two different formats.
1) Grad Grams (blank) – purchase these for just $1.00 each.
Include a personalized message, decorate if you wish, and return it by the designated deadline.
2) Designer Grad Grams (decorated) – purchase these for just $3.00 each.
Various designs already ‘scrapbooked’ with embellishments, all you do is add your personalized message, and return it by the designated deadline.
Grad Gram pages can be purchased at various times and locations throughout the school year and are collected a week prior to graduation. The individual pages are assembled into personalized booklets that are given to every graduating senior, along with their diploma, on Graduation day.
All of the money raised from the sale of Grad Grams goes toward scholarships for CHS graduates!
Below is a sample of a blank Grad Gram page and the Grad Gram booklet cover page, personalized with graduation date and student name.
How much does a Grad Gram cost?
Grad Grams are always available for just $1.00 each! Designer Grad Grams (pre-decorated) are also available, while quantities last, for just $3.00 each!
How will my purchase of Grad Grams benefit CHS students?
Every year the sale of Grad Grams funds scholarships for graduating seniors! Grad Grams were first sold at CHS in 1999. Since then, over 200 individual scholarships have been awarded totaling almost $100,000!
The Cedarburg High School Scholarship Fund, sponsored by the CHS PTO, has awarded sixteen $500 scholarships to CHS seniors for the past four consecutive years! With your ongoing support of Grad Grams, the PTO will be able to continue providing scholarships at this amazing annual level!
The pricing of Grad Grams is a real value that benefits the whole family. Our CHS graduates love the handmade pages and heartfelt messages that help create their personalized keepsake memory book!
Where can I get Grad Grams?
Grad Grams can be purchased at any time during the school year. They are available in the CHS main office, at various meetings & presentations, or from any Grad Gram Committee member. March through May, Grad Grams can also be purchased at local businesses (Cedarburg Piggly Wiggly, Leap of Faith); and all public & private Cedarburg schools. These blank Grad Gram pages do not expire!
Designer Grad Grams (pre-decorated) can be purchased as of February and will only be sold through the CHS main office, Leap of Faith in downtown Cedarburg and at select CHS meetings & presentations. Designer Grad Grams cannot be pre-ordered and will not be price discounted. Sold on a first come, first served basis, while quantities last!
Who should give Grad Grams?
CHS graduates love to receive Grad Grams from family members (parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins). Many families purchase Grad Grams early in order to mail them to relatives, who must return them prior to our May deadline so they are sure to be included in the Grad Gram booklet. It’s a great way for family members and friends that live far away to be a part of your child’s graduation!
There is a sample Grad Gram letter and mailing instructions available on the PTO website that you can use as a guideline (Click here to see sample letter). TIP: Mail Grad Grams with winter/spring Holiday Greetings or with Graduation Announcements.
Teachers, coaches, scout leaders, youth group leaders, church members, employers, professionals, neighbors and friends also enjoy giving Grad Grams to graduates! High school students are encouraged to give Grad Grams to their senior friends, classmates, and teammates!
How can I personalize my Grad Grams?
You can simply write your own personal message directly on the Grad Gram and sign it. Use pens, markers, calligraphy, or a stencil. You can also attach a photo, stickers or any other decoration to dress up or individualize the Grad Gram for your senior.
You can print a message or quote onto a separate piece of paper and attach it to the Grad Gram, or simply print directly onto the Grad Gram. Be as creative as you desire, as long as it conveys your thoughts and wishes!
Need a little inspiration? Check out the sample Grad Grams pictured below!
Short on time? Desire some creative assistance?
Purchase Designer Grad Grams! Fabulously hand-decorated for you in a variety of styles and themes - just add names and your personalized message! Available while supplies last.
Sample Designer Grad Grams pictured below!
Where do I take my completed Grad Grams and when are they due?
Completed Grad Grams can be turned in at any school office. Look for the Grad Gram doghouse located in the CHS atrium. Check the yellow flyer for an additional drop-off location between March and May. The final turn in deadline for all Grad Grams is the fourth Friday of May! Grad Gram books are then lovingly assembled by hand, by parent volunteers. The time frame between assembly of the books and distribution at graduation is very tight, so late submissions will NOT be included.
When do the graduates receive their Grad Grams?
On Graduation Day, immediately following the graduation ceremony. Graduating seniors receive their Grad Gram book along with their diploma.
If I still have questions, whom can I contact?
Please send an email to:
Jan Weber - sjweber02@wi.rr.com or Ingrid Schmit - mattingschmit@yahoo.com
The statewide ACT testing day for juniors is Tuesday, March 3rd. Juniors will register for the state ACT during an extended Resource Advisory on Wednesday, February 26. Advisers will be providing registration instructions and assisting juniors as they complete the demographic sections on the ACT answer document.
Students will have the opportunity to send their ACT scores to 4 colleges for free. Note that all WI public and private colleges use your highest composite ACT score for admission. Many competitive out-of-state schools such as Minnesota, Northwestern, Washington U in St. Louis, U of Chicago, NYU and Vanderbilt only look at your highest score. Some students are concerned that sending a low score will harm an applicant’s chances for admission. The Director of Admission at UW-La Crosse states: “Not true...students that are not satisfied with their first ACT score often take the exam again and can also send that score to colleges." Moreover, sending your scores may lead to some early scholarship opportunities that you may not have known about if you didn’t send your scores. Thanks for reminding your junior to come prepared with a pencil and prospective colleges to note on their ACT answer sheet.
Juniors interested in preparing for the ACT should visit the CHS Counseling website for various test prep opportunities. Through a variety of methods, students are encouraged to practice for the ACT on a regular basis: https://www.cedarburg.k12.wi.us/schools/high/counseling/TestPrepResources.cfm
Each year our staff prepares skill support sessions to offer our students during resource. These learning sessions correlate directly to student data we receive from the ACT and ACT Aspire. Students are encouraged to sign up and attend multiple sessions to help them prepare for the upcoming ACT test. CHS ACT Resource Support Session Calendar
All 9th, 10th and 11th grade students have free access to a helpful ACT test prep program called Method Test Prep. MTP is an online program that helps students build their English, math, reading, science and general ACT test prep skills. By clicking the “Clever Login Portal” link from the Students Tab on our website, students will have easy access to their MTP account with no username or password required.
MTP keeps track of practice work that is completed and identifies students' strengths and weaknesses. Students can listen to subject tutorials and lessons are followed by quizzes to assess mastery. Students have access to a large pool of practice questions and receive instant, easy-to-understand explanations upon completion of each question. MTP also includes a helpful vocabulary builder. Students have seen measurable progress with an average increase of 3 points on the ACT when using MTP. Thanks for encouraging your child to take advantage of this free and effective ACT test prep program.

A reminder that the Bulldog Brainstorming Session - Setting Parent Priorities with the Principal is coming in February. Monday, February 24th from 6:30-8:00pm, the PTO will hold a parent input session on setting CHS priorities for the future work of the CHS administration and staff. Please sign up on the form linked here if you are interested in attending! This event largely influences the goals and changes that occur in the high school over the next year. The night begins with an overview of the requests and priorities from last year's parents who attended the event, and how the school has responded to the requests. We will then discuss what continued growth and efforts the parents would like to see using a defined process and set a path for the staff and administrative team.
Contact the CHS PTO if you have any additional questions on this or future events.
