CHS Monthly Newsletter

April 2019

From the High School Office...

Happy spring to all of our CHS families.

The warm weather and knowing Spring Break is nearing has definitely changed the the feel of the building over the past week or two. The long stretch from the holiday break until now really tests the stamina of our students and staff. Happy to see our success through the past few months and happy to see warm weather in the forecast.

Senior parents- we are in the final quarter of your student's high school career! As my own son just turned two and I am guessing all of you can remember that day clearly and it most likely feels like it was just yesterday. Now, your student is almost a CHS graduate.

We have nine weeks remaining and we want to remind families to help keep our students focused and engaged over that time, but also to enjoy the time with your child and soak in every minute. One of the many pieces of advice we give high school students is you can only do high school once, so enjoy it.

Three cheers to our CHS Robotics team who, this past weekend, qualified to compete in the World competition for the second straight year! The team will travel back to Detroit next month to compete in the World Championships.

We are looking forward to a busy April. Hoping many of you can make it out to Parent Teacher Conferences this Thursday night in the CHS Fieldhouse. Spring Break from April 15th-19th provides a much needed reprieve for students, staff, and parents. Then we are able to celebrate the end of the month with the CHS Prom at the River Club in Mequon. We are also excited to share that the PTO sponsored Post Prom will again be offered for our students. Our goal is always to provide a safe option for students to enjoy with their friends. More information on this great event is listed below.

While the past few months may have seemed to pass by slowly, the next two months will fly by. We're excited for this spring and all that occurs at CHS. Looking forward to a strong final quarter.

Go Bulldogs!

College and Career Center

Message from the Counseling Department:

National Decision Day is fast approaching! Seniors that have made the decision of what they want to do after graduation, need to inform colleges of their decision that they plan to attend by May 1st. This often requires confirming your acceptance and submitting a deposit.

Students who have been accepted to more than one college, are recommended to inform the other schools that they will not be enrolling there. This opens up space on their waitlist. If you are still undecided or conflicted with making a decision we encourage you to stop in the College & Career Center to discuss making plans.

Mark your calendars! To further celebrate the hard work and future planning of our seniors, on May 1st, CHS Seniors are encouraged to wear clothing reflecting their post-secondary plans. This can include college gear, military uniforms, or employment attire.

AP Testing Schedule

Advanced Placement exams will take place between May 6th and May 17th. Please see the link to the schedule for specific dates, times and locations. CHS AP Schedule

AP Testing Support from your CHS Student Council!

AP tests are coming up and the end of the year is closely approaching. To ease the stress of students, CHS Student Council is selling student care packages. For $10 a package, it includes fruit snacks, a good luck/success quote, candy, a pencil, a pen, goldfish, sticky notes, a granola bar, and an optional personalized note!

If you are interested, please fill out the Google form linked here with the necessary information for your student.

Checks can be sent and addressed to Cedarburg High School. The money must be sent in by Friday, April 26th. If you want to have a personalized note in the package, please send that in the envelope along with the check.

Students also will have the chance to purchase the packages for their friends during their lunches the week of April 22nd. The packages will be delivered to students on Friday, May 3rd.

This is a great opportunity to motivate and encourage students during the stressful time of AP exams. We want to promote student well-being and hope you take advantage of this great offer!

Thank you for the support of StuCo and our students at CHS!

Wisconsin Aspire and Forward Testing ***Information for all students 9th-12th

April 8th through the 12th all Freshmen and Sophomores will be taking the WI Aspire Exam during an extended resource period. In addition, on April 5th all Sophomores will complete the WI Forward Social Studies exam. During these dates we will complete testing during an extended resource period. Please note that testing will also take place on Thursday the 11th beginning at 7:28 when we would typically have late start.

Forward and Aspire tests are online assessments so all freshmen and sophomores are reminded to bring their charged Chromebook to testing. In addition, cell phones and backpacks should be left behind in student lockers as they cannot be accessed during testing.

Finally, due to the number of teachers who will be proctoring and in order to insure an appropriate testing environment on these days, resource will be optional for Juniors and Seniors. However, juniors and seniors are still welcome to attend resource options provided by teachers who are not proctoring or attend study hall in the cafeteria during this time.
