"You Are the Jury"

Objective: Evaluate a group of artwork and select the best examples based on a set of established criteria.

Study the 3 criteria below.

      • Creative: Doing something in an interesting/new/original way: i.e. subject matter, arrangement, color/contrast, style of painting, setting and/or context.

      • Engaging: Draws the viewer in; keeps their attention through composition and subject matter; and makes a connection to the viewer (emotional, intellectual or cultural).

      • Skillful: Shows evidence that they know how to use the medium and are using it in a way that is consistent with the intent of the work.

Evaluate each of the 27 paintings provided based on the 3 criteria above on a scale of 1-5 (5 being the best).

        • Be sure you have thought about it, you will need to explain your scores.

        • This is not about what you “like”! It is about what you think best meets the criteria and why.

        • This is what YOU think, not what your friends think.
