What's the difference between the GED credential and a traditional high school diploma?

A high school diploma signifies that the student has attended and successfully completed all required courses in a traditional classroom setting. The GED is a set of exams that determines whether the test-taker has a high school graduate's level of knowledge.

How long does the GED test take?

Math: 115 minutes - includes a three (3) minute break between parts (to retrieve your calculator)

Language Arts: 150 minutes - includes ten (10) minute break and 45 minutes for the written essay.

Social Studies: 70 minutes

Science: 90 minutes

Can I retake a test if I didn't pass?

Testing Center: In Illinois, there is no waiting period if you do not pass a subject area test the first time. After taking a test subject 3 times, you'll have to wait 60 days before retesting. There's no limit to how many times you can test in a year.
