The Intermediate Percussion Ensemble is comprised of the percussion sections for the Concert Band and the Symphonic Band. Ensemble placement and the correlating class placement is determined in the spring prior through the annual placement audition process. Percussion classes meet year-round and perform both on and off campus.

Percussion students perform with their assigned concert bands according to their placement auditions from the previous spring. This allows the students more time to work on percussion-specific skills and also affords them the opportunity to work on percussion chamber music in addition to their assignment band repertoire. Throughout the semester, and especially leading up to band concerts, percussion students are expected to attend after-school rehearsals with their assigned bands to rehearse their previously-learned large ensemble music in a live context.
