While exploring career options, every student at CHS is strongly encouraged to complete one of the following work-based learning (WBL) experiences before graduation. Completing a WBL experience will contribute to the ACT 158 Evidence-based Pathway.
CASD Teacher's Assistant Internship course website
a non-paid, one semester - 1.0 credit internship course that provides CHS students with the opportunity to learn and explore the teaching profession. The course is offered in-person and virtually. While you may not ultimately plan to become an educator, you will gain hands-on, real-world experience while you implement our district’s employability skills to develop the link between school and the workplace.
Completion of a Teacher's Assistant Internship experience will count as evidence towards the ACT 158 Evidence-based pathway.
As a student TA, you will:
have a greater understanding of workplace roles, functions, ethics and responsibilities relating to teaching
be better prepared to make informed career and college decisions
improve your time management skills
develop a network of future career contacts
Short-term Externships and Job Shadows
A three day experience that allows students to connect with an adult in a career field of their interest, experience a workplace and workday first hand. Students will learn the connection between academics and careers, be able to make their class work more relevant, and understand the requirements of professions and industries to help them prepare to join the workforce. In comparison, a job shadow is only one or two (3-8 hour) days.
Completion of an externship will count as evidence towards the ACT 158 Evidence-based pathway.

Penn Tech Advanced Manufacturing Pre-apprenticeship Program
Certified Manufacturing Associate from the Society for Manufacturing Engineers. The program content still reflects foundational knowledge and skills for entry-level positions in manufacturing. However, the focus is on more generic transferrable skills that pre-apprentices can apply to multiple industry and trade sectors.
Advanced manufacturing is the use of innovative technology to improve products or processes, with the relevant technology being described as "advanced," "innovative," or "cutting edge." Advanced manufacturing industries increasingly integrate new innovative technologies in both products and processes.

AMP Schedule: end of January to mid-May
The course will be added to your schedule. You can choose to complete it as a 5th course or replace an existing elective.
Completion of this program will count toward the ACT 158 Graduation Alternative Pathway or Evidence-based Pathway
Virtual Orientation - will occur on the first day
Instructional Core: 27 Online Learning Modules through Tooling U (self-directed)
Instructional support provided by Penn College instructor
3 in-person, hands-on lab days (located by cohort)
Industry Day – opportunity to meet Manufacturing Employers (at Penn College)
Credential exam for the Certified Manufacturing Associate at the end of the program

Program Dates: July 5 to August 11, 2023
Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Compensation: $15.00/hr
Qualifications:
– Must be between the ages of 15-18 years old by the start of the program
– Must be available to participate in the full six weeks of the program (3 unexcused absences are permitted)
– Willingness to work on a small team of peers
– Curiosity about the natural world
– Desire to learn new skills and participate in weekly educational sessions
– Must have ability to legally work in the U.S.
– Must have transportation to and from centralized crew meeting location (typically a public building, park, or common space that is determined and communicated by crew leader prior to the season start. Locations will be accessible via public transportation if applicable in your city).

Diversified Career Occupations (DCO) is a program offered through Lehigh Career & Technical Institute (LCTI). Twelfth grade students in good standing and on track for graduation may be released from school for half days to work in entry-level positions while earning high school credit. Student performance and progress are monitored through weekly meetings with the LCTI School-to-Work Coordinator. Students are required to secure employment in a setting that meets the requirements of the program and employment must remain uninterrupted to continue in the program. Enrollment is determined through an application process prior to the start of the twelfth grade year.

The PAES lab is a career training program provided to students in our special education programs.
PAES® is a hands on Comprehensive Work Development Curriculum that sets up in a typical sized school classroom.
PAES® operates in a simulated work environment. Students become employees; teachers become supervisors. Strict procedures are followed so students get the feel of real work, at the same time learn and explore new career vocational areas.
Each area has a comprehensive array of tasks for the students to perform. The instructor monitors the tasks and provides feedback and assistance where needed.
Students are encouraged to become as independent as possible and are awarded for their progress.
Students completing PAES® have a thorough knowledge of many job skills and have a better understanding of the real working world.
A comprehensive report is developed once a student has finished PAES®. This report can easily be used to develop Career Development Plans, School-To-Work Plans, IEPs and Transition Plans.

PAES® provides students with Real Knowledge that is relevant to their lives. Students are encouraged to become independent problem solvers and develop higher order thinking skills.
