Graduation Project Fast Facts

Project due date: mid-March

Grading: PASS/FAIL (To pass, you must earn at least 19 out of 29 possible points)

Students complete the following activities throughout their senior year:

Complete assignments to help you prepare for the final project.
Create a presentation that tells the story of your high school experience. Includes pictures.
Record yourself presenting your story. 5-10 minute time limit (Screen recording directions provided in Canvas - follow steps closely)
Submit the project summary sheet that includes a link to your recording, an updated resume, and a postsecondary statement with proper share settings (additional information provided in Canvas) by the due date provided by your teacher.
Complete a virtual exit interview with your assigned judges

Project Guidance

Your presentation should tell a story. Start by telling the judges about who you were when you entered the high school. Use your reflections to take the judges on a journey to understand the experiences you had, the obstacles you faced, the advice you were given, and the knowledge you gained at CHS that informed your postsecondary decisions.

Your 5-10 minute presentation must include:

An introduction (Who were you when you started at CHS?)
A reflection answering three questions:
- Who am I? - Your reflection should address how you have grown, changed and adapted into the person you are today. Explain how these experiences have informed or influenced your postsecondary choices. You will also provide you career/personality survey results.
- What do I want? - Your reflection must include at least one of the following career-related experiences: Extracurricular Activities, Volunteer Experience, Work Experience, Job Shadow or Job Interview, or Teacher's Assistant. **Please see Ms. Moyer if you have another experience that you would like to include that is not listed here for approval. Then, you will provide your intended career / career field and explain why you think it is a good fit.
- How will I get there? - A summary of your postsecondary plan and goals. This statement is a minimum five (5) sentence reflection that describes your postsecondary plans for after graduation. You should address how this plan aligns with your career goals.
Conclude by answering: How has Catasauqua High School helped prepare you for life after graduation?

Nervous about recording?

I understand your concerns, but I would compare this to a live classroom presentation or job interview. Yes, you needs to do it, but you should know that only myself and one other teacher judge will view your video. It will not be shared with students or other adults without your permission. I also feel uncomfortable recording myself, but it's something that I have to do for my job. My suggestions:

Do your best. Focus on the slides and do not watch yourself on the camera.
Once you start recording, it becomes easier to talk - just like when giving a live presentation.
If you begin to stumble through your words, stop recording and take a break. When you come back, review what you want to say and try again.
Even when giving a live presentation, we make mistakes. If you forget to say something, no one will know. This is your life story.
If you catch yourself using verbal fillers (i.e. um, yea, like, so, you know, ok...). Pause, refocus and keep on going.
And by all means, DO NOT rewatch your video until after you submit! You will be your own worst critic.
