Scholarships are gifts. They don't need to be repaid. There are thousands of them, offered by schools, employers, individuals, private companies, nonprofits, communities, religious groups, and professional and social organizations.
That depends on each scholarship’s deadline. Some deadlines are as early as a year before college starts, so if you’re in high school now, you should be researching and applying for scholarships during the summer between your junior and senior years. But if you’ve missed that window, don’t give up! Look at scholarship information to see which ones you can still apply for now.
Each scholarship has its own requirements. The scholarship’s website should give you an idea of who qualifies for the scholarship and how to apply. Make sure you read the application carefully, fill it out completely, and meet the application deadline.
That depends on the scholarship. The money might go directly to your college, where it will be applied to any tuition, fees, or other amounts you owe, and then any leftover funds given to you. Or it might be sent directly to you in a check. The scholarship provider should tell you what to expect when it informs you that you’ve been awarded the scholarship. If not, make sure to ask.
A scholarship will affect your other student aid because all your student aid added together can’t be more than your cost of attendance at your college or career school. So, you’ll need to let your school know if you’ve been awarded a scholarship so that the financial aid office can subtract that amount from your cost of attendance (and from certain other aid, such as loans, that you might have been offered). Then, any amount left can be covered by other financial aid for which you’re eligible. Questions? Ask your financial aid office.

If you are pursuing ENGINEERING - APPLY FOR THIS SCHOLARSHIP! The deadline is March 19th!
DESCRIPTION: The text below is from an email announcement/advertisement sent to School Counselors in the Lehigh Valley.
My name is Jeffrey Kutz and I am the current President of the Lehigh Valley Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers (LVPSPE) and chairman of the Scholarship Committee. Our organization represents a multitude of engineering disciplines within the Lehigh Valley and focuses on the encouragement and support of area students who decide to pursue a career in engineering.
At our local chapter of PSPE, we are in the process of awarding scholarships for 2023 local high school graduating seniors who will major in an engineering curriculum at an ABET accredited college program.
In 2022, we awarded four (4) $2,500.00 scholarships and are hopeful that our fundraising efforts will support the same level of scholarships for this year as well. The bios of our previous scholarship winners can be found on our website at https://www.lvpspe.org/page-1804236.
Your contact info has been included in the distribution list for this email based on our outreach from past years, however, if you are no longer responsible for counseling students pursuing engineering then please let me know so I can update the distribution list.
The application form and additional information is posted at http://www.lvpspe.org/Scholarships. Please review the requirements in the application and encourage any students who meet the criteria to submit an application for consideration. I am available by email or telephone to answer any questions about the application process.
DETAILS:
The application is available on the LVPSPE website at the link above.
The file link will open in the web browser and can be renamed and saved to a local computer using another name ("SAVED AS").
Please have the applicants include their names in the file names and e-mail titles.
Upon completion, the applications should be saved in an un-editable format. This can be accomplished by using “Print to PDF” function or by printing and scanning the application. The completed applications should be submitted by email to Scholarship@LVPSPE.org
Applications need to be typed. Handwritten applications will not be considered, because they have been illegible in the past.
Please advise your students to expect an e-mail acknowledgement when the application is received. In the past, several applications have gone into junk mail, so please ask them to follow-up if they do not receive a reply from me. Also, ask the students to include e-mail addresses and guidance counselor information (including e-mail address) with their applications.
Application Deadline: Applications will be accepted up to Sunday March 19.
Late applications will typically not be considered as it is not fair to those who have submitted their applications on-time.
Mailed applications have been accepted in the past, however, we have transitioned to only accepting electronic applications at this time.
Are you planning to pursue a Environmental Science related career upon graduation or major/minor in Environmental Science in college?
