a non-paid, one semester - 1.0 credit internship course that provides CHS students with the opportunity to learn and explore the teaching profession.
While you may not ultimately plan to become an educator, you will gain hands-on, real-world experience while you implement our district’s employability skills to develop the link between school and the workplace. As a student TA, you will:
have a greater understanding of workplace roles, functions, ethics and responsibilities relating to teaching
be better prepared to make informed career and college decisions
improve your time management skills
develop a network of future career contacts
Students will be able to:
observe and reflect in a pre-service assignment and project portfolio
reflect on the complex variables a teacher must consider when designing classroom setup, use of technology, and lesson planning.
observe the classroom environment and participate or contribute appropriately.
develop and enhance current employability skills through soft skills assignments and interactions with their mentor, faculty, staff, and students
practice email etiquette and write a thank you letter to their mentor
Please refer to this bell schedule for high school class period start/stop times. If you are a TA during Block 3, you will eat lunch during your mentor's assigned lunch period.
Students assisting at the HS can use the RR period or after-school hours (typically 2:35 pm - 3:00 pm) to meet with your supervising teacher to discuss questions about the teaching profession and/or assignments.
Students assisting at Sheckler or CMS are provided with 15 minutes for travel and arrival. You must return to CHS before the start of their next class. All Block 3 TA's will eat Lunch A. You will need to schedule a meeting time with your supervising teacher regarding questions about the teaching profession and/or assignments.
Arrive to your TA placement on-time
Regularly communicate with your supervising teacher
Complete Canvas assignments (assigned by Ms. Schmidt) by the due date for each marking period
Follow directions and complete assigned tasks provided by your supervising teacher
Be a role model to the students in the classroom through the use of employability skills

Use the RR period or after-school hours (typically 2:35 pm - 3:00 pm) to meet with your supervising teacher. If you are a TA during Block 3, you will eat lunch during your teacher's assigned lunch period.
You will develop a pre-service teaching portfolio. You will describe, question, observe, and reflect on your supervising teacher's methods and procedures.
You will complete a reflection on the tasks assigned by your supervising teacher and write a thank you letter to your supervising teacher.
At the end of each marking period your supervising teacher will evaluate your performance based on these eight employability skills. These are the skills that you should be able to demonstrate or exemplify throughout the course in your role as a teacher's assistant. You will not lose points if a specific skill did not apply to the tasks assigned to you by your supervising teacher.
