VIP= "Virtue in Practice"
October's virtue is "Hope"
We are looking forward to a busy and fun-filled week! Our field trip, Red Ribbon week special dress days, and fun Halloween activities! What more could we ask for to finish out the spooky month of October! I will include a reminder of special dress for each day of this week below.
It will also be the final week of new sight words in this first grading period. Please review the new words, along with all the previously introduced words as we prepare for next week's reading assessments. Remember, your child will be staying home either Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.
We will only send home one easy reader book again this week due to the field trip/no homework on Monday. Have them make comparisons this week between themselves and the characters. Concentrate on reading the words the first night, then on the second night have them read and talk about what they are reading with you; try to hide the pictures the third night and see if they can read it without the clues of the pictures! After reading assessments I will be able determine the appropriate level of books to send home for reading practice each week.
As we approach the reading assessment and report card testing at the beginning of November, keep in mind some of the skills that can be reviewed at home. Creating and identifying rhyming pairs, letter identification, letter sound identification, numbers 1-20 identification, counting backwards from 10 or 20 if they can already do it from 10, and practicing prayers. These are all things we do in class too, but every bit of practice is helpful for them! Many of these reviews can be done on the weekends in the beautiful weather headed our way. They can count while they swing, use sidewalk chalk to write numbers, letters, and sight words, say sounds of letters for you in the car, identify beginning sounds of or count Halloween candy! Have fun and commend them for their progress! Thank you for all your help and un-ending love and support of your kids!
