Unit 3, Weeks 3-4
*Fiction:
Has made up characters, settings, & events
Has a beginning, middle, & end
Is sometimes told by a narrator instead of a character in a story
*Character Perspective:
Fiction stories will sometimes have a narrator that is not a character. It is called third-person point of view. The narrator can describe the perspectives of any character.
Perspective is the character’s attitude or feelings about something. Third person point of view allows authors to describe how many characters feel.
*Plot: Sequence of Events:
The sequence of events is the order that events happen in a story. We can use words like first, next, them, and last to tell the order of what happens.
Authors use signal words and phrases such as at the beginning, before, in the meantime, and after to show the order of events.
*Compound Words:
Words that are made up of two smaller words. The meanings of the smaller words help you figure out the meaning of compound word.
*Headings:
Expository text often have headings that separate a text into parts. They headings are usually printed in big, bold type.
Headings help organize information in a way that makes it easy for the reader to understand.
