The purpose of the RBL Leadership Convening (2021) is to provide space, experience, and a collective brain trust for the RBL leadership/ vertical team to address the following learning objectives:
Acknowledge the leadership skills RBL district and campus leaders have effectively leveraged during this unprecedented time and the positive impact of these skills in their RBL efforts
Explore the RBL Implementation Continuum (RBL-IC) as the RBL instructional framework
Clarify the RBL SMART Goal, progress tracking and reflection cycle
Identify trade-offs which allow teachers time to implement blended learning and participate in blended-specific PD
Objective: Participants will be introduced to the RBL Implementation Continuum (RBL-IC), gain exposure to blended implementation strategies in action, and leverage the RBL-IC to design their blended student experiences.
Objective: Participants will take a deep dive into "Assessment and Data Driven Instruction (DDI)," a core pillar of the RBL Implementation Continuum (RBL-IC). The learning experience will focus on helping blended teachers and instructional leaders utilize a systematic approach to assessment and DDI to deliver instruction based on students’ specific learning needs, monitor student learning, and provide feedback to students.
Objective: Participants will learn about and develop a plan for establishing a cyclical iteration process, called "Discovery Driven Planning (DDP)." DDP involves conducting pilot classroom walkthroughs using the RBL Implementation Continuum, reflecting on blended implementation progress, and identifying next steps to achieve incremental positive change.
Objective: Participants will take a deep dive into "Personalized Instruction," a core pillar of the RBL Implementation Continuum. The learning experience will focus on helping blended teachers and instructional leaders provide students a variety of learning opportunities to master standards according to differentiated learning objectives dependent on students’ level of mastery, and frequently offer individual feedback about student progress.
Objective: Participants will take a deep dive into "Relationships," a core pillar of the RBL Implementation Continuum. The learning experience will focus on helping blended teachers and instructional leaders ensure students develop positive, collaborative relationships with teachers, other adults/mentors, and peers which are focused on high expectations for academic and personal growth.
Objective: Participants will take a deep dive into "Student Agency," a core pillar of the RBL Implementation Continuum. The learning experience will focus on supporting blended teachers and instructional leaders to consider and adjust the level of control, autonomy, and power that a student experiences in an educational situation.
Objective: Participants will take a deep dive into "Rigor," a core pillar of the RBL Implementation Continuum. The learning experience will focus on helping blended teachers and instructional leaders ensure that students engage in the work of lessons, think critically and do heavy lifting on content that is grade-level, college-ready or student appropriate, and continually practice and receive feedback until mastery is demonstrated.
Objective: Participants will gain exposure to the science of reading and how blended learning provides increased opportunities and flexibilities to deliver the components of effective reading instruction in accordance with the science of reading.
Objective: Participants will gain exposure to implications of the science of reading on secondary reading instruction and how blended learning provides increased opportunities and flexibilities to deliver effective reading instruction for students with varying reading profiles.
Objective: Participants will prepare to launch an effective secondary flex reading block, focused on reading skill development where adaptive software serves as the backbone of instruction and teachers prioritize goal setting and student motivation.
