Overall Objective: Participants will gain exposure to implications of the science of reading on secondary reading instruction and how blended learning provides increased opportunities and flexibilities to deliver effective reading instruction for students with varying reading profiles.
Explore the science of reading for adolescent readers (proficient and non-proficient) (Module 1)
Understand common learner profiles of adolescent readers (proficient and non-proficient) and identify their instructional needs (Module 1)
Consider effective reading/ELA instructional strategies to address instructional needs aligned to various learner profiles (Module 2)
Explore examples of ELA blended classrooms and consider how blended strategies offer flexibilities and opportunities to address variable instructional needs of adolescent readers (Module 3)
Reflect on science-based refinements we can make to the reading student experience based secondary students’ needs and build a blended classroom prototype (Module 4)
