Dear RSU 74 Board Members,
October at Carrabec Community School has been a month filled with learning, collaboration, and community engagement. Students and staff have continued to build on the foundations established in September, with a focus on both academic growth and school culture.
Our second Cobra Den Day was held on October 1, with an impressive 90% student attendance. Dens worked together on a team-building challenge to construct the tallest cup tower possible. The activity fostered collaboration, creativity, and school spirit, while reinforcing the sense of community and belonging that the Cobra Dens are designed to promote.
On October 2 and 3, teachers, Mrs. Jordan, and Title I educational technicians met for data meetings to review results from the NWEA and Maine Through Year assessments. These meetings allowed staff to identify student groups, set goals, and determine instructional needs. As the year progresses, we will continue to use data from assessments to guide instruction and ensure that all students are supported in making meaningful growth.
The Walking School Bus took place on October 14 and 16, with several parents joining us for the walk to school and others meeting us on the return from the high school. This event not only encouraged healthy habits and safe travel but also strengthened connections between families and the school community.
Our K-5 students visited the North Anson Fire House on October 27, where they participated in engaging fire safety activities. Students learned about the importance of smoke alarms, family meeting places, and safe practices in the event of a fire. They also had the opportunity to explore the fire truck and boat, making the experience both educational and memorable.
Looking ahead, we are excited for our annual Halloween Parade on October 31. K-5 students will walk to the high school, where older students will cheer them on, before returning through the 6-8 wing. We are also looking forward to Mrs. Pease’s Quilt Raffle during the first week of November, a tradition that brings our community together in support of the school.
With continued dedication from staff, strong family involvement, and enthusiastic student participation, October has been a great month at Carrabec Community School.
Sincerely,
Geoffrey Case
