Welcome to the Carlynton Zoo & Aquarium!

This website features all kinds of different animals you can find at the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium. You can learn exciting facts and interesting information about your favorite animals and get to know many things you didn't know about them.

The Red Panda
The red panda, also known as the lesser panda, is a small mammal native to the eastern Himalayas and southwestern China. It has dense reddish-brown fur with a black belly and legs, white-lined ears, a mostly white muzzle and a ringed tail.

The Polar Bear
The polar bear is a large bear native to the Arctic and nearby areas. It is closely related to the brown bear, and the two species can interbreed. The polar bear is the largest extant species of bear and land carnivore, with adult males weighing 300–800 kg

The Tiger
The tiger is the largest living cat species and a member of the genus Panthera. It has a powerful body with a large head and paws, a long tail, and distinctive black stripes on orange fur.

The Flamingo
Flamingos or flamingoes are a type of wading bird in the family Phoenicopteridae, which is the only extant family in the order Phoenicopteriformes. There are four flamingo species living throughout the Americas, and two species native to Afro-Eurasia. A group of flamingoes is called a "flamboyance".

The Penguin
Penguins are a group of aquatic flightless birds from the family Spheniscidae of the order Sphenisciformes. They live almost exclusively in the Southern Hemisphere: only one species, the Galápagos penguin, is found north of the Equator.

The Jellyfish
Jellyfish have been around for millions of years, even before dinosaurs. The jellylike creatures pulse along on ocean currents and are abundant in cold and warm ocean water, in deep water, and along coastlines.

The Gorilla
Gorillas are herbivorous, predominantly ground-dwelling great apes that inhabit the tropical forests of equatorial Africa. The genus Gorilla is divided into two species: the eastern gorilla and the western gorilla, and either four or five subspecies.

The Turtle
Turtles, or testudines, are reptiles of the order Testudines, characterized by a special shell developed mainly from their ribs. Modern turtles are divided into two major groups, the Pleurodira and Cryptodira, which differ in the way the head retracts.

The Rhino
A rhinoceros, commonly abbreviated to rhino, is a member of any of the five extant species of odd-toed ungulates in the family Rhinocerotidae; it can also refer to a member of any of the extinct species of the superfamily Rhinocerotoidea.

The Cheetah
The cheetah is a large cat and the fastest land animal. It has a tawny to creamy white or pale buff fur that is marked with evenly spaced, solid black spots. The head is small and rounded, with a short snout and black tear-like facial streaks.

The Zebra
Zebras are African equines with distinctive black-and-white striped coats. There are three species: Grévy's zebra, the plains zebra, and the mountain zebra. Zebras share Equus with horses and asses, the 3 groups being the members of Equidae.

The Owl
Owls are birds from the order Strigiformes, which includes 200 species of mostly solitary and nocturnal birds of prey typified by a large head, binocular vision, binaural hearing, sharp talons, and feathers for silent flight.

The Panda
The giant panda, also known as the panda bear or simply panda, is a bear species endemic to China. It is characterised by its black-and-white coat. The name "giant panda" is sometimes used to distinguish it from the red panda.

The Otter
Otters are carnivorous mammals in the subfamily Lutrinae. The 13 extant otter species are all semiaquatic, aquatic, or marine. Lutrinae is a branch of the Mustelidae family, which also includes weasels, badgers, mink, and wolverines, among other animals.
