🎵 INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC AREA CONCERT on MONDAY, FEBRUARY 9th at CVHS GYM

• Wear full concert black

• Attendance required

• ALL 6-8 Grade Orchestra tuning at 5:15pm, concert runs from 6-7pm

• ALL 6-8 Grade Band warms up at 7:15pm, concert runs from 7:45-8:45pm

Students, please show them to your families as we cannot accept requests from outside emails. 🎵Advanced Band, Wind Ensemble, Advanced Orchestra & String Ensemble Disney Trip 

Disney papers will be sent home in mid-March. We will be participating in the Film Scoring Workshop at California Adventure on May 20. 

🎵 FORGOT YOUR INSTRUMENT IN THE MUSIC ROOM?

Custodians are here M-F until 9:30pm. Please, on a very rare occasion, you are welcome to come to campus and find one of them to help open the room. They are cleaning rooms so look for the rooms with the lights or door on.

🎵 CUSD "DISTRICT" HONOR GROUP INFORMATION

Rehearsals are all Wednesday's in March at Newhart from 6-8pm. Concert is March 31 at the Renee & Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall. More details posted on the Canvas course. To audition, students need to complete 4 steps. 

1. Complete your “Intent to Audition Form” on paper. Obtain from your school music teacher. 

2. Give your completed Intent Form to your teacher & they will add you to the Honors Canvas course.

3. With a parent/guardian, fill out & submit the “Information/Commitment Google Form” found in the Canvas course.

4. Submit your audition video requirements (all 4) through Canvas no later than January 28. 

🎵 LOOKING TO PURCHASE A GIFT? SUPPLY? INSTRUMENT?

• We have a gift idea list on the right. It links to Amazon lists based on each instrument. The #1 gift that helps students the most is a music stand.  Any version would be so helpful. Musicians need to be able to see their music well. There are many online stores or local music stores who have fun t-shirts, earrings, hats, decorations, pop/movie music books, etc. which highlight the fun of what we do. Great for holiday gifts!

• If you are looking to purchase an instrument, please see your teacher for help. Local music stores are also a good resource. Be careful with online or non-music store purchases as many of the "deals" are "too good to be true" and your teacher can help guide you. Poorly made instruments are often not playable and hinder success. We want to set you up for success!

🎵 Got a Metronome and a Tuner?

We use these on a regular basis in all music classes. TempoLite for metronome (free app) and for a tuner, our favorites are bandmatetuner.com (website and iPhone app for all instruments, even orchestra) and tuner.ninja/old (website) both work great for our class.

🎵 PARENT/GUARDIAN CANVAS SIGN-UP

Parents and guardians, please sign-up to be a Canvas Observer. This allows me to send important emails to families regarding field trips, concerts, and other reminders. This also allows you to email your teachers and see your child's grades and assignments. Once you sign-up as an observer for one class, you will be part of your child's account for all classes through high school. Click here for a link ion how to sign up. Our school (Newhart) is listed in the district's Canvas account which is "capousd.instructure.com" We do not have a "school" account, only district. Good news is that once you sign-up, you will be signed up from now through 12th grade and for all classes.
