Make sure your instruments are in good condition for the fall!

Some instruments are a little out of adjustment from many years of use and may benefit from a minor adjustment. During early summer, please take the instruments into your local repair shop and ask the shop to look at the instrument and make sure it is in good working condition. Please make sure to take band instruments into shops that specialize in band instruments and orchestra instruments into string specialists.

Planning Your Musical Summer

1. Local Day Instrumental Camps

• Find information in your local community guides like Recreation Departments, District News, or YMCA.

2. Local Day All Arts Camps 

• Arts X-press - Local stay-away camp with focus on ALL arts. A favorite of Mrs. Petty's daughter! ⭐

3. Local Choir or Musical Theater Summer Camps

• Musical Theater Camp at the Liberty Theater in Los Alamitos at 714-827-9141 or seclo.org. The Theatre Guild holds its annual summer camp where kids ages 7-17 will learn to sing, dance, act and put on their own production!

• Summer Musical Theatre Workshop at South Coast Repertory Theater in Costa Mesa at 714-708-5510 or scr.org. Open to all, grades 7-12, from beginners to young pros. This exciting and lively class teaches students how to audition for a musical role and then prepares them to perform that role. They'll enjoy the vocal work, while learning to interpret the music and the text. In other words, they'll learn what it means to "act" a song and "sing" a scene. Throughout, emphasis will be on healthy use of the voice.

4. Stay-away Music Camps (Instrumental & Choir). 

Students stay at these camps for about a week (or longer) in the local mountains. All housing, meals, coaching, etc. are included in the tuition. They also have swimming, hiking & other outdoor activities. Information posted below. Arrowbear and Wildwood are favorites.

5. Take private lessons and/or practice extra.
