HOME CALENDAR OF EVENTS GRADES/CANVAS MUSIC FLASH CARDS SONG RECORDINGS
That’s the theme for the 2024-25 Reflections Art Program, which has been bringing the arts to life for more than 10 million students since 1969. California State PTA and its members, families and kids are on the forefront of this amazing program, which increases community awareness of the importance of arts in education.
Reflections encourages students of all ages to:
Unleash creative talents and be inspired
Express themselves imaginatively in their artwork
Experience the fun and joy of making art
Tap into critical thinking skills to create art inspired by the annual theme
Receive positive recognition for their original works of art.
Follow the theme as it is half of the judges score. For music composition, the theme is usually reflected in the title of the music written and the style chosen.
You may write for any and all instruments or voice.
You can choose a solo, duet, trio, or any size group of musicians and instruments or voicing.
You do not need to perform the music, but someone does. You can also use an electronic version of the instruments.
You may hand write with manuscript paper (click here for a printable version) or use a music writing software to write your music. The benefit to writing software is that it often plays back what you are writing so you can hear exactly what you write.
Click HERE for a free, easy-to-use version of music writing software. It is web-based, plays back what you write, and you can create recordings of what you make for the judges.
You do not need to know all about the rules of music composition to be a music composer! This is designed for middle school aged students, not professionals. If it's something you want to do, try it! It can be really rewarding trying to write your own music.
If you want extra help, please see your music teacher. The sooner, the better.
There is an application which goes with your art work. You can pick that up from the front desk in the office when school starts and/or view the school's PTA website listed above.
DUE DATE:
The due date is announced at Newhart when school starts and is usually in late September. Please double check the PTA's website for exact dates as well.
