What are the specific school needs identified by your group in the December PD? How will you use the class’ Big Idea/ Inquiry Question/ Artmaking Practice to address them? Please be as specific as possible.
We reached out to the Bilingual Program at Waters and attended their most recent program. The group, all Hispanic, included some pre-schoolers.
So, we invited them to join our class on December 14th. We’ll make some ornaments out of pine cones, play some games, create some personal calendars and share some treats. Hopefully some parents might decide to join our community once they see our next project! There’s something magic about creating art together.

We began the semester with Hichol Art starting with yarn. The news paper is a good source for our English Class. It provies new vocabulary at an intermediate level and topics that are of particular interest, Yes your cereal box is shrinking, sometimes the box isn't even full! We all had different experiences with "Shrinkflation!" We used pictures of a story about Anne being late for work. Each student took several pictures and tried to create a vivid picture in word.
"Why don't we learn a song? Lupe said. "Great idea!" I have a favorite song from a long time ago. Written and performed by Simon and Garfunkle, "Bridge over trouble water" Vicky found it for us on her phone. With a Copy of the words we were able to intertpret the meaning;
What are trouble waters?
Where did those word come from?
What is the correct use of lie, lay?
Who is the silver girl?
We practice several times. Listen for our version of the song next school program.
Lyrics
When you're weary
Feeling small
When tears are in your eyes
I will dry them all
I'm on your side
When times get rough
And friends just can't be found
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
When you're down and out
When you're on the street
When evening falls so hard
I will comfort you
I'll take your part
When darkness comes
And pain is all around
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Sail on Silver Girl
Sail on by
Your time has come to shine
All your dreams are on their way
See how they shine (See how they shine)
If you need a friend (If you need a friend)
I'm sailing right behind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind
I will ease your mind.
