Day Trips
What about day trips and field trips?
Once we are in Lahr, the intention is that kids go to school and live like Germans with their German families. However, we still do lots of fun day trips. Here are some examples of trips we have done in the past:
Hiking from our school (because it is only about 500y from the trails) into the Black Forest.
Day trips over the Rhine to France (usually Strasbourg).
A visit to the great Freiburg cathedral and university.
Europa Park! Imagine a non-Disney Disneyland with Europe's fastest and highest rides. Well, it is only 15 miles from Lahr.
Ziplines in the Black Forest are amazing but don't forget to have your parents sign the Abenteuerwald permission slip.
An ancient silver mine deep underground on the top of a Black Forest mountain? It is dark, cold, wet and awesome.
How about a Summer bobsled run down the side of a mountain? Combined with an historical Black Forest farm.
A visit (and interview) with the mayor of Lahr. Dress nicely because we are sure to be in the newspaper.
