Student safety is our top priority. Our goal is to provide an engaging and secure learning environment inside the building and on the playground. At our HLC campus all doors that lead inside the buildings are locked at all times. A person must badge in or use a key to gain entry to the building. All visitors to our campus must check in at the front office. Our playground is fully enclosed with locks on the gates that lead into the playground. The gate locks are out of each of students, so there is no possibility of a preschool student independently opening a gate and gaining access to the parking lot. When dropping your student off at the start of class, we ask that you please close the gates behind you at all times. Students are escorted to and from the bus and our childcare classrooms by staff at all times. Students are supervised by multiple staff members in every setting.
Our Papermaker Preschool classroom is uniquely located at Camas High School. They have access to their own small enclosed playground located just outside the classroom door. When students access the playground they are supervised by multiple staff and high school child development students at all times. The classroom door to the Papermaker classroom also remains locked at all times and requires a badge to gain entry. If your child is in the Papermaker classroom, there will never be a time where they are left unsupervised with a high school student. The preschool staff and child development staff work together to supervisor all learners, both large and small. If your child rides the bus to the Papermaker classroom, they will be met at the curb and escorted into the classroom, and escorted back to the bus when it is time to go home.
We will be using the BrightWheel app for attendance. You will receive information for setting up BrightWheel in August with the rest of the back to school information. This provides an added safety measure. When your student arrives at school they will be checked in daily using the app and you will receive a notification that they have arrived. If class has started and you have not received a notification, you will want to contact the school right away at 360-833-5510 or 360-833-5547.
As a school we have a safety committee who meets regularly to review our safety measures, plan for drills, and make improvements when needed. If you ever notice anything that causes you to have a safety concern that you would like to have addressed, please contact Katie Maffucci at 360-833-5510.
