Celebrations

Please Share with us!

Each community in our district works hard to provide equitable experiences and opportunities for representation. Recognizing traditions is important and builds community. As we plan experiences we want to be mindful of providing windows and mirrors for students. Mirrors are ways that students see themselves and their culture represented in the classroom. Windows provide opportunities to see and celebrate cultures and traditions that might be new for some. We would love your support in helping plan and celebrate the large variety of cultures and traditions in our community. If you ever have a tradition or celebration that you would like to share, please contact your child's teacher so we can help support each opportunity. If your family does not wish to participate in celebrations, please communicate with your child's teacher so we can modify activities to accommodate your family's wishes.

Birthdays

We love to recognize birthdays in our classrooms! Here are our guidelines for celebrating…

You are welcome to bring in a treat to share with the class if you choose. Please message your teacher to arrange the day/time.

Edible Treat Ideas

All edible treats must be store bought. We strongly encourage that you choose a healthier treat to celebrate.

fruit snacks, crackers, pretzels, popcorn, popsicles, frozen Gogurt,  rice krispie treats, etc.

Non Food Treat Ideas

Pencils, Bracelets, Stickers, Play-doh, bubbles, chalk, coloring books, etc.

Invitations

We will gladly hand out birthday invitations for you. If every child in class is not invited, invitations will be passed out discreetly. Please help us by talking with your child about being kind and inclusive with all their friends at school. Birthday party inclusion is a sensitive topic when you are 3-5!

Holidays

The Heights Community Preschool chooses to celebrate holidays in our classrooms. We love having the opportunity to share and talk about everyone’s traditions. You will find some of the traditions that are recognized, and we would love to partner with you to help create new traditions to highlight in our classrooms that represent each family's culture.
