T:Buc Camps
St Patrick’s Primary and Rasharkin Primary have been successful in securing funding from T:BUC Camp Programme. The Camp Programme is about challenging historic positions, encouraging debate and discussion and providing a way for young people from different backgrounds to get to know each other, try new experiences, have fun and help to build longer term relationships.
Introduction - Pre Camp
The focus and priorities of Pre-Camp are to:
• Recruit, engage and raise awareness
• Build relationships within the group and on a cross community basis
• Involve young people in programme design and building momentum.
Prison Island - Team Building Session
Community Choir
The pupils along with Ann McCambridge came together over November to joinly prepare for Christmas Carols around the village. Parents and the community were invited to come along and watch their performance. The day ended with a special performance in the local Residential Home where the residents got to enjoy talking with the pupils and listening to Christmas carols.
Gathering Drums
Joe from Gathering Drums led the children in a morning of cultural differences. The session on diversity and respect for differences through the art of music and dance was a fun and somewhat different morning which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Peace Players
The children have been enjoying a programme of activity over the past 4 weeks from PeacePlayers basketball, providing peace education, and leadership development. Through the programme the children become equipped to influence lasting change in their communities.
Belfast Bus Tour
The children got to see Belfast from a height. They jumped on City Sightseeing Bus Tour and were transported around the city seeing all the local landmarks and getting a feel for the history of the city.
Titanic Centre
The children were transported back to 1912, discovering hidden histories from the Titanic. As part of their workshops they got to become historians and solve the case of long most mysteries.
Graffiti Art
Artists from Art Cart have been teaching us how to spray paint. Our stimulous for this was from our Bus Tour around the murals in Belfast. First we had to discuss what the theme would be and why. We then had to practice our line drawing and spray painting skills. We can't wait to see what out boards turn out like and display them in our Village.
Play in a Day
Our Play in a Day workshop was an interactive way of encouraging learning and creativity through using different drama techniques and exercises. The day accumulated in the pupils sharing a short performance to parents and Primary 5/6 children from both schools. This performance showcased what they have learnt throughout the day and showed the remarkable confidence this workshop brought. Children also had the opportunity to create parts of the set and advertising for the event.
The children ended their series of TBuc sessions with a celebration trip to Air-tastic in Belfast. This allowed the children to have fun with their new friends and cement the relationships built over the last 4 months. It was fair to say...the children had a ball!
