Unfortunately, the chances of having a student who has been or is being abused are pretty high. Should this occur, teachers need to be ready to respond appropriately. This topic was specifically addressed in Junior Practicum. This reflection includes when to report abuse and who to report it to, as well as some of my thoughts on the matter.
I completed the "Protecting Children and Youth" training from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. This training is published by a religious organization, but teaches universal principles when it comes to "how to recognize and prevent physical, sexual, verbal, and other types of abuse. " The training also "provides scenarios to help you better understand and apply key principles and policies."

Multiple times throughout practicums I have participated in fire drills and mock lockdowns. I wrote this reflection on this importance of emergency classroom procedures after my first drill as a teacher candidate. Our number one responsibility as teachers is to keep children safe, and we can not leave that up to chance. That is why having a plan/procedure is so important.
