To ensure the physical safety of students in the classroom, especially in a classroom that has students with extreme behaviors, I learned about the acting out cycle in my Social/Behavior Strategies for Students with Disabilities class. This cycle explains the escalating, peak, and de-escalating stages of behavior outbursts. If a teacher is aware of the cycle, they can take action to try and help the student de-escalate before the behavior peaks and that student or other students may be harmed. Should the student reach the peak of the cycle, I have also learned safety procedures, like room evacuations, that can keep my students out of harm's way.
With COVID-19 outbreaks happening across the country, schools are trying to be proactive in fighting sickness. In all the schools I worked at in the last year, posters such as these were hanging on the walls. Washing hands, wearing masks, and using other hygiene protocols are ways that I have followed health procedures and encouraged my students to do the same, according to school policy.
