In one of my classes at BYU-Idaho I was able to create my own handbook for paraeducators. This handbook covers the roles and responsibilities of paraeducators, interview questions, guidelines for working with non-effective paraeducators, qualifications, and a training schedule. I participated in several class discussions on ways we can implement trainings into our regular classroom routines and how to address issues when they arise. Besides these class discussions, I also spoke with my mentor teachers about how they have learned to make the most of paraeducators in the classroom.
I have participated in a few Multidisciplinary Team Meetings while in practicums, and several other mock Multidisciplinary Team Meetings in my classes in school. I learn something new about the importance of and techniques of collaboration each time I am a part of one of these meetings. Regardless of the school you are teaching at or state you are in, collaboration matters! Below is a reflection I wrote about what I had learned after attending a mock MDT meeting.
