Professional Responsibilities
The expectations listed here are to ensure the smooth, safe and professional functioning of our school
Attendance Procedures for Faculty Absences: As you are aware, Rhode Island’s Every Student Succeeds Act State Plan includes teacher chronic absenteeism as an indicator in determining school ranking. The definition of a chronically absent teacher is a teacher absent more than 10% of school days in a year. It is important to note that teacher absenteeism calculations will not include time for approved professional development or long-term excused absences.
Communication: Effective, ongoing communication with families creates a partnership rooted in student success. Teachers are expected to contact parents/guardians on a regular basis as this is one of many best practices to ensure student success. Communication home includes, but is not limited to, phone contact, email, Aspen Gradebook and Google Classroom. Teachers must be proactive in their approach to student success and progress.
Please refer to our MHHS School Home Partnership Plan for guidance and suggestions...
E-Hall Passes: All students MUST have an E-hall pass when in the hall during class time. Teachers MUST create an E-hall pass when allowing a student to leave class. Please limit hall passes during the lunch block and do not issue passes the first and last ten minutes of each class period.
Leaving the Building: If a faculty member leaves the building during the day, they must sign out/in in the main office, there can be no exceptions for safety reasons. In addition, staff may only use the front foyer entrance to exit and enter the building to ensure the school remains safe.
Leaving the Building/Emergency: If a faculty member must leave due to an unforeseen circumstance or emergency, they must notify an administrator prior to leaving. They must then sign out or have discussed arrangements for signing out with an administrator.
Library Pass Policy: Students need an E-hall pass to access the library.
Mailboxes: Faculty mailboxes are located in the main office and must be visited daily for important information. Please be sure to visit your mailbox in the am, prior to homeroom and/or advisory as best practice. Please visit mailboxes at least once per day to assure receipt of important faculty and student information.
Start Time: School starts at 8:00 am and teachers are expected to be in their classrooms by 7:55 am, greeting their students.
Sub Folders: It is imperative that teachers maintain an up to date substitute folder. Be sure to include rosters, sub plans, seating charts, emergency procedures and any pertinent individual student information , health concerns/504 or IEP accommodations .
