Well, it depends on why you leave. If you retire or take another position, we normally allow you 90 days to transition your files and things before we disable your account. During this time it is a good idea to use Google Takeout to quickly export most of your data to a new email or download it to make a local copy of your data for yourself.
It is crucial you also take the time to remove your school credentials from your insurance providers, banking institutions apple accounts or anything else you have used your school email to set up and maintain. Once we disable and ultimately delete your account, you will completely lose access to this email address, it will no longer exist. All data found within it will be wiped out. If your account is deleted, I cannot retrieve anything. After your account is disabled for 90 days, if you haven't contacted us with a really good reason why we shouldn't we will then delete your account.
Note: if you are a teacher who is retiring, but is fully planning on coming back and substitute teaching in the district after your 90 days is up, well reach out to jimmy.felty@butler.kyschools.us and let him know and he will flag your account so it will not be deleted. When you begin substitute teaching again, he will reactivate your account.
If you are sharing things with the person who replaces you, that is awesome of you to do, but they only have 90 days to get that stuff copied over into their drive and then it disappears forever. We will not leave your account open so they can "login as you" and continue to use your data. That leaves you open for identity theft and leaves us paying for 2 staff in licenses when we only have 1 staff using said licesenes. That is not cost effective.
If you are terminated from your position, your account and access to it may be disabled immediately. These are done case by case and that decision is made by the Superintendent. If this occurs you or your attorney would need to reach out to the central office for access to your data. If you have any questions about how to use Google Takeout (search it up and read about it first) or have a specific instance not discussed here, feel free to reach out to jimmy.felty@butler.kyschools.us and he will answer your questions.
