Golden Ticket Events
We are going to reward our students for meeting our CARE expectations with Golden Ticket events throughout the year! These CARE expectations extend beyond the classroom to wellness, the bus, the cafeteria and during dismissal. Our CARE expectations are as follows:
Care for Self For example: persist through challenges, attend to task, try our best, ask for help, make safe decisions, etc.
Care for Others For example: saying please & thank you, safe actions, respect others space, return books on time, refrain from interrupting, using appropriate/safe voice levels per activity (i.e. voice level 0 in the halls at all times), etc.
Care for our Space For example: pick up after myself and trash that I see instead of walking past it, returning items to their place, using restroom facilities correctly, being gentle with school items, closing doors gently, etc.
What is it? Students with a "Golden Ticket" are able to participate in our Golden Ticket Reward Events. We anticipate hosting these events approximately once a nine weeks. Our Caregivers will offer an an experience around cooking, yoga, puzzles, board games, chess, art, dance, cookie decorating, coding, origami, soccer, basketball, breakout games, jewelry making, rock painting, scrapbooking, minecraft, perler beads, comic book creators, Kona Ice, and many more.
When are the events?
October 13th
December 15th (TENTATIVE DATE)
March 1st (TENTATIVE DATE) K-4th Gr.
March 1st (TENTATIVE DATE) - 5th Grade Dance
May 15th - (TENTATIVE DATE) - Talent Shows (K-2 and 3-5th)
How does it work? Students will sign up for the experience they would like to attend. If students have a Golden Ticket, they will be able to attend. Any student who receives a minor Care Form or an Office Referral will participate in our reflection room in place of this event. If a student does not meet the expectations in our reflection room, they may not be eligible to participate in our next Golden Ticket event. GOOD NEWS: Students get the opportunity to reset after each Golden Ticket event. All students have the opportunity to earn this event. We are tracking student data for this event starting TOMORROW (8.22.23). Students gave us feedback last year that there were not enough spots in their favorite activities. We plan to survey students to determine interest and offer only those activities!
Students who fail to meet the expectations may choose to apply for a principal pardon. K-1 teachers will facilitate scheduling a meeting between the student and Dr. Scott if it is requested. Pardons will only be granted for minor behaviors and only for students who have very few behavior incidents.
Volunteers: If you would like to assist a teacher with leading a small Golden Ticket group or if you would like to provide supplies for a group, please reach out to Kelley Moore for a full list of our groups. Parents who are volunteering will not necessarily be assigned the group their child is assigned to and must have current background check on file with the school.
Transportation
AM Reminders
Students in preschool, headstart and Ms. Vertrees students - drop off is in the back of the school at the cafe doors! Siblings may not be dropped off! If you arrive after 9:10am, please come in the front of the building and sign in your child at the front office.
Drop off is in the car rider line! Please do not let your child out in the parking lot or walk them to the flag pole to send them across.
We ask that parents drop off their child, then park to come in AFTER 9am ifyou need something from the office. This prevents distraction from staff stopping adults from entering the building and allows staff to monitor student safety!
Please stay in your vehicle!
PM Reminders
Students in preschool, headstart and Ms. Vertrees students - pick up is in the back of the school at the cafe doors! Siblings may not be picked up here! If you arrive before 3:30pm and need to sign out your child, please come in the front of the building and sign out your child at the front office. If you arrive after 4pm, please come to the front of the building.
All parents need a car rider tag in the event your child's bus is out
All students must be picked up by 4pm!
We ask that parents pick their child, then park to come in AFTER car rider dismissal is complete (around 4-4:10pm depending on the day.
Please stay in your vehicle!
Changes to transportation must occur before 3pm and must be sent in writing to Katie Ashbaugh. She will send you confirmation!
We STRONGLY encourage you to keep your child's transportation consistent and make only absolutely necessary changes! Changes cannot be made to addresses that are not in IC. Students may not go home with friends on the bus!
Leave the color bracelet on your child's backpack. This shows teachers how a student is getting home!
Attendance Reminders
Call the front office and let our Caregivers know why your student is out if possible!
You have 5 days to turn in attendance notes!
Parent notes must include the following information for the absence to be excused: date(s) of absence, reason for absence, student name, parent/guardian signature, parent/guardian phone number and be an "excusable absence".
In most instances, absent students may NOT participate in extracurricular activities.
Home/hospital services are provided for students who will miss 5 or more consecutive days due to illness.
BCPS has a new educational enhancement opportunity policy this year!
The event must have a significant educational value and be related to the Kentucky core curriculum. EHOs cannot occur during the school’s state assessments or district-wide assessments. Students that have 3 or more unexcused absences or tardies will not be approved for an EHO.
Non-examples: Funerals, Family Vacations, Athletic Events, Community Events and Religious Events because these are not part of an intensive instructional program as governed by the Kentucky Department of Education.
Review our BCPS Attendance Guidelines for Parents 23-24
Benefits of strong attendance:
Prevents students from falling behind
Children with poor attendance in Kindergarten and 1st grade are much less likely to read on grade level after 3rd grade
Improves social skills: builds confidence as students interact with their peers and teachers
Students develop healthy life habits
Provides path to a secure job in the future
Keeps students on track for graduation (absenteeism is a better predictor of graduation rates than test scores by the time students are in 9th grade)
Dress Code & Phones & General Reminders
Dress code highlights:
No holes in pants
Tennis shoes EVERY DAY! Our gym floors have been resurfaced and students MUST wear tennis shoes. If this is a hardship for your family, reach out to our FRC, Mekayla Belcher.
Dress code violations require a parent to bring student a change of clothes. Our FRC clothing resource is not for dress code violations.
Absolutely no hats or hoods on head while in the building. Students who cannot follow the hood on head rule, will lose the privilege of wearing hoodies.
Phones & Electronic Devices
Students are not permitted to have phones, tablets, smart watches, or personal electronic devices at school or on the bus!
Exceptions will be made for students with medical needs that require a device. However, students are expected to stay off the device with the exception of medical needs.
If your child must have their phone/device due to going to daycare or another parents house, it must remain turned off and put away. The phone cannot be visible at any time!
First offense is a warning. Second offense - device is turned into the safe in the office for parent to pick up. Third offense and more will be addressed on individual basis.
Lunch with your child!
What: School lunch with your child!
Who: Parent or guardian ONLY unless parent gives guest written permission to eat with child via email to our volunteer coordinator, Marquita London, by 9am! An adult lunch cost $4.85. Siblings and younger children that are not school age are not permitted due to limited space.
